Computer
Games make kids brighter
A recent study in Britain suggests that children who play computer games
regularly but not excessively exhibit a level of concentration equivalent
to that shown in professional sports people and astronauts.
The study also found that children playing computer games tended to
have more friends and be better adjusted than those children who favoured
reading or watching TV and also had better fine motor skills.
The
Web at 30,000 feet
International aircraft builder Boeing has made a deal with three US
airlines to allow flyers to surf the Internet in the air, but an hour
online in the air will cost users about the same as a month on the ground.
Boeing made the deal with United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta
Air Lines, who will all take a minority stake in Boeings Connexion
division. Internet connections will be installed in about 500 planes
in the second half of this year.
Travelers wanting to surf the Internet at high altitude will have to
pay US$20 an hour to get online. Internet-based telephony services will
not be offered initially.
Aussie
dollar power
If your business is in tourism, accommodation or manufacturing, your
customers' buying decisions are affected by the value of the dollar.
With the Australian dollar currently so low, Australians will be reluctant
to go overseas; preferring to holiday and tour here. And, because their
currency buys more, there is also expected to be an increase in in-bound
tourists. The same goes for any exporter of goods or services.
If
ever there was a time for you to have an Internet presence now
is the time.
Internet
more important to business
The Australian Bureau of Statistics say that adult Internet usage has
risen to more than 50% of the Australian adult population from 44% a
year ago.
Sales
made on the Internet are slowly climbing, however a rapidly increasing
number of buyers are checking websites before completing the transaction
in the traditional ways of phone calls or visits.
